Bell bottoms, hammer-time pants, jelly-shoes, scrunchies…I’m sure we can all name some fashion fads from our youth that were truly stuck in their own time, right? We laugh and shake our head and ask our friends, ‘how could we have ever…?” Fads come and go and our culture embraces them and then is quick to scorn them when they are ‘out.’

It seems that our 2020 culture is increasingly hesitant to jump on board with fast-moving fad trains. Or, maybe it’s just easier to see the opinions of those who are oppositional? The dawn of social media has made it possible to both quickly exalt a product and watch is sky-rocket to the top, and also trash-talk something before it even gets a chance to make it’s creative debut.

The world of surgical cosmetic procedures is no different; tracking years of trends and statistics, we begin to see that what we once understood to be a passing fad or a short-lived blip on the ‘get beautiful quick’ screen, is now a growing and stable life-force of its own. As owners and operators of Bubbles & Botox, find it important for our current clients and our potential customers to understand that the work that we do and the services that we provide are science-based, safe, and are growing not only in popularity but in legitimacy–we aren’t some ill-thought passing fad!

To compare our cosmetic medical procedures to the passing fashion faux-pas of oversized shoulder pads is at some level asinine, but the comparison serves as a friendly reminder that some things are not always what they seem through the eyes of social media, movies, and popular culture. We work diligently to dispel myths, to correct misinformation, and to educate the public that minimally invasive cosmetic procedures such as Botox and soft tissue dermal fillers are a legitimate industry built upon years of medical training and data. And, they are rising in popularity in a way that removes them from the ‘passing fad’ category and into the ‘little black dress’ category—that is to say, timeless and here to stay.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons 2018 Report of Procedural Statistics, Cosmetic and Reconstructive plastic surgery procedures rose 2% from 2017 to 2018, a total of 17.7 million cosmetic procedures performed, 15.9 million of those were minimally invasive procedures such as neurotoxin injections (Botox) or dermal fillers.

To quote the statistics report, “Facial rejuvenation procedures continue to experience growth, as 2018 marked the highest number of botulinum toxin type A injections to date, with over 7.4 million injections!”
